There are 48 stones which are used in a typical Mancala game. These are spaced evenly in 12 pits, and they have four stones in each-pit. Stones may be seeds, beads or small pebbles. Other versions of Mancala may vary in the number of stones used but 48 stones are the most widely used and accepted number to play with.
